High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
Within the classroom, individual learning plans are provided for gifted and highly gifted students, and teaching and learning programs demonstrate evidence-informed differentiation based on a variety of assessments. We offer stage-based literacy and mathematics groups allowing HPGE students to work beyond their stage level. Teachers and executive staff regularly engage in professional learning focused on high potential and gifted education (HPGE) policies, enabling them to expertly differentiate programs to extend students in the creative, intellectual, physical, and social-emotional domains.
Across our school
We have a HPGE team comprising of executive members, learning and support staff, and classroom teachers. We promote a culture of high expectations throughout the school. We also provide opportunities for students through external partnerships to further develop their creative capabilities. Students are teacher-nominated to attend Leadership by the Bay and participate in HPGE workshops in Science, Drama, and Mathematics in collaboration with Woolooware High School. They also have opportunities to take part in events such as Sculptures by the Bay, the Sydney Writers Festival, and the Write-On competition, among others.
Across NSW
At Lilli Pilli Public School, we provide a range of state-wide HPGE opportunities, including The FIRST Lego League Challenge, Premier’s Debating, Public Speaking, Walk for Respectful Relationships, School Spectacular, Create NSW programs, Sydney East trials, and the Paul Kelly Cup.
